What It Takes To Be A Good Radio Dj

A lot of people nowadays want to have their own little home radio.That is,of course possible.The question is...do you want to take your radio station to the next level?If the answer is 'yes',you want to know how to be a good dj.

Now,when you start the radio,don't just stack a dozen of songs ready and leave them play.You will need to think about several things:

1. What genres will you play mostly.Try not to spin very different genres one after the other(e.g. Trance and Hip hop).People like to hear harmony,look for songs that have a nearly matching tempo and a similar key.
2. Another thing is the requests.Try to answer all of them and do your best.Noone likes to be rejected.It will only drop the fame of your radio.And you want it to be popular,don't you?
3. Talking...this is one thing to be careful with.The best idea for an all-music radio DJ is to just say a thing or two in between the songs.Especially when they cannot have a smooth transition(e.g. very different genres,sometimes unavoidable).But don't say anything stupid like 'Uhm..yea...a cool song here...enjoy!' That's a no no.Better stay silent than just talk because you want listeners to hear you.I usually say who's the song for(if it's a dedication),I would say the artist and track name and occasionally some funny lines.For example,I'd go like 'Ok,next song is Benny Benassy - I am not drunk,dedication to xxx.And remember,always drink with measure!Cheers!' That's what your listeners will like.Remember,the radio is entertainment,make it fun!

Tips:
* Try to talk in a loud voice,turn your mic volume up if needed.
* You could organise a one-genre evening(e.g 90s only).Sometimes it's just what listeners want to hear.
* Always listen to a song you've just downloaded before playing it on the radio,it might be bad quality.Better play it late than make your guests turn the sound off ;)
* You could try getting a stream in http://www.listen2myradio.com or in http://www.shoutcast.com
* Never drink during performances.It'll only do harm(personal experience)You will never want to mistake people's names and songs.
* Be creative,don't play the same stuff over and over again.And don't use very old lines or jokes.
